Georgetown
Located along the Potomac River Waterfront in Northwest Washington, the neighborhood of Georgetown is steeped in history. Founded in 1751, the City of Georgetown predated the establishment of the City of Washington and the District of Columbia. Its charter was revoked by in 1871.
Georgetown today, known mostly for its upscale shopping and dining, is one of the leading tourist attractions in the city. Located along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, the major commercial areas of Georgetown are usually packed with shoppers and pedestrians.
Most of this area consists of historic row homes, many of which require authorization to make exterior alterations. There are, however, other options in apartments and some very upscale condo buildings. There is a premium on this area of DC, however, affordable options can also be found.
