The town of Reston VA goes by the motto, “Live, Work, Play” and, once you’ve been there, you will know that defines it correctly. Reston is Virginia’s first planned residential community which began in the mid 1960′s. Covering 7000 acres, Reston includes 1350+ acres of open space, 55 miles of paved and natural paths, and 700+ acres of forests.
Recreation is also a huge aspect of life here. Some of the amenities include four lakes, 15 pools, 52 tennis courts, playgrounds, garden plots, picnic facilities and other community buildings.
A little history… After a couple attempts before him, in 1961, Robert E. Simon, Jr. used proceeds from his family’s selling of New York’s Carnegie Hall to purchase the 11.5 square miles known as Reston today. With 58,000+ residents, the result is a wonderful snapshot of a great quality of life just outside the nation’s capital of Washington, DC.
Reston currently has a great mix of low and high-rise condos, town houses and detached residences. Reston also has shopping and employment areas throughout the entire community. One of the largest such areas is Reston Town Center which consists of a tremendous amount of office space, life-style type shopping and dozens of restaurants.
